Joey Kiraly’s wife, Serena, gave birth to her own nephew, her sister-in-law’s biological child, after her sister-in-law suffered two back to back still births. Below is their powerful story, and the beautiful moment the grieving sister-in-law, Nicole, held her rainbow baby for the very first time.
“I haven’t posted anything on Facebook about this throughout everything. My sister Nicole and her husband Tony have two older sons Ian and Jaxon. When they found out they were expecting another brother on the way, they were beyond thrilled. A new sibling meant so much to their boys. In February 2016, my sister suffered a stillborn son. Losing Evan was hard on all of us. She bravely tried again but at 34 weeks along she suffered a placental abruption, and we lost Logan. Two back to back still births.
She was beyond devastated when she was told due to the abruption she could never carry again. That’s when my wife said she would carry a baby for her. They harvested Nicole’s eggs and Tony’s sperm and on November 1st they transferred an embryo, genetically and biologically Nicole and Tony’s, into Serena. I felt like I didn’t want to jinx anything so I stayed quiet about what was going on, but my sweet nephew Chance is finally here. Nicole Kiraly McKeegan and Anthony McKeegan needed this so much to complete their family. I’m so glad we were in the position to be able to help you. Serena Kiraly, you’re an amazing woman to have done this for our family, and there are no words I can say or think of to say to thank you. Seeing my sister and brother-in-law like this, is worth a thousand words. Here is to your happy ending finally! Also I wanted to say happy birthday to my nephew Logan, who would’ve turned one today. I know you and Evan are up there looking down at your mother and father, smiling seeing them both so happy. This has been a incredible experience and journey.
Below is the moment my sister finally held her rainbow baby after suffering the tragic back to back losses of two stillborn sons.”
Read the larger story, as told by Serena Kiraly, Joey’s wife, who gave birth for her sister-in-law, Nicole:
“Tonight I was apart of a miracle.
I was able to give birth to my beautiful so-much-needed nephew Chance Joseph McKeegan. My sister in law and her husband had done IVF, with her egg and his sperm. They froze the embryos awaiting my body to prep successfully for a 5 day embryo FET transfer back in November 2017. With a long process and approval needed from my husband Joseph, Nicole, Tony and myself, we carried out this journey, the 4 of us, together.
The reason the process was started was from two stillborn loses, back to back. Evan Michael McKeegan was born February 5th, 2016 at seven months gestational age. It was the most devastating day of our family’s life. Determined to not give up hope, they tried again. On July 9th, 2017, in the 8th month of gestational age, Logan Wade McKeegan was born and again, we could not keep him. Again, we were destroyed once more. His loss almost took the life of my sister in law due to the way it happened. She was so fortunately saved by Doctor Scott Muir, from Lehigh Valley Health Network OBGYN in Hazleton, PA. A hero.
The team that led us to this beautiful and miraculous moment, was Again, Dr Scott Muir, Certified Nurse Midwife Jennifer Ruch (Jennifer Scott Riley), And Dr. Patrick Fiero. Throughout the pregnancy they kept the closest eye, they supported us, they reassured us, they confidently acted on everything the way they saw fit. These 3 people, are meant to do what they do, and I couldn’t be anymore grateful to have had been in their care. Although Dr Muir couldn’t be there for delivery, he personally visited and check in 4 times within 36 hours to be assured we were okay and taken care of properly. Jennifer Ruch and Dr. Fiero were present for birth and didn’t leave our side, and helped us through the most intense, anticipated, longed moment of our lives. I cannot remember the team of nurses who also stayed the whole delivery, and who helped those few days we were in the hospital, but they couldn’t have been nicer, sympathetic, empathetic, and genuine towards us. They are true angels in the maternity ward of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton Pa. Dr Scott Muir and Jennifer Ruch CNM were my doctors 3 years ago for the pregnancy and the birth of Joseph and my son Gabriel, as well, so the trust in them were immense.
My other sister in law Christina, who had been there for ALL OF US, from day one, was also apart of this birth. She cheered me on, she gave me strength, she made me laugh, she coached me through my labor, she coached me through the birth, when I needed time to regroup between she was right next to making sure I had everything I Needed. She was the breath of fresh air I needed in the room while going through this that whole day and night. She was there for my Gabriel, and she was there for every one of Nicole and Tony’s births. She is so strong, and always captured with her amazing photography skills the moments no matter good times or bad. We couldn’t have done it without her. She is my rock, she is my strength, she is a beautiful woman and soul. I can’t thank her enough for holding me through this whole entire process, pregnancy, and labor.
Chance Joseph McKeegan was born on Logan Wade McKeegan’s one year birthday in Heaven. Our due date was July 20th, and at 11:47pm, after 24 hours of Labor and 2 hours of pushing, with 13 minutes to spare, Chance arrived on his brother’s birthday. The biggest miracle and surprise of this all. He came into the world screaming, he came into the world rightfully, he came into this world a savior to his family. Chance’s life is in honor of his two angel brothers, and his life was guided safely to Earth, to his mother and father Nicole and Anthony, his two older brothers Ian and Jaxon, by his two angel brother’s Evan and Logan.
I will forever hold you dear to my heart my sweet little buddy. You were needed and wanted so Badly by everyone in this family. We have tried so hard to make your birthday a possibility. I am So happy for your mommy and daddy and All of your brothers. We are All going to enjoy you to the fullest for the rest of our lives, like we do with everyone we hold dear and love. You were made out of love and honor of your two older brothers who we couldn’t keep with us on Earth. I will always love you, and cherish you, because you taught me with love, Anything is possible.”
